The Stargreen blog thing

Kings of Leon

KINGS OF LEON play Brixton on 14th August. "I'm a sucker for beautiful women. Especially if it's someone you see on the TV or in magazines. When you see that person in real life, it's like 'Wow.'" After briefly pausing, he adds: "Well, sometimes it's more like Whoa! You look better on the billboards.'"

Tickets on sale here on Friday - max two per person.

Coral

THE CORAL mix psychedelia, folk and rock'n'roll but despite that they are still not Trekkies

We have tickets for their 29th July gig, goes on sale Friday.

Will Young

Fresh from his weekend at Glastonbury (he played the Union Stage, and "drank a lot of cider" - our sources don't say in what order) WILL YOUNG announces a gig at the Roundhouse on 12th December. Tickets on sale Friday 9am.

Last Shadow Puppets

The LAST SHADOW PUPPETS are Alex Turner and Miles Kane, frontmen of the Arctic Monkeys and Rascals respectively. They 'take it in turns to be Robbie Williams', apparently.

Catch them at Hammersmith on 26th October: tickets go on sale here at 9:30am Saturday

Bob's your uncle

Friday 11th July is 1274 years since the birth of Robert the Bruce and eight years since the death of Robert Runcie. More relevantly, it's the on sale date for these new gigs:

  • 28TH OCTOBER is TONIGHT IS GOODBYE. And TOMORROW IS TICKETS ON SALE and SATURDAY is HAVEN'T YOU LEFT YET? BOTHER I CAN'T FIND THE CAR KEYS.

  • ISLANDS: Quebecois indie rock at Dingwalls on 1st October

  • FRIENDLY FIRES, the first unsigned band ever to appear on Channel 4's Transmission programme (what a claim to fame, hey?) are at KCL 7th October

  • ROOTS MANUVA was born Rodney Smith, of parents from a small village in Jamaica called Banana Hole. 18th October at Shepherds Bush

Adele

ADELE LAURIE BLUE ADKINS according to a Times Online interview "thinks that the London singer-songwriter scene, ie, this year's biggest musical news, is already dead". In the Yogi Berra "Nobody goes there no more, it's too crowded" sense, we assume. Stargreen have a few tickets left for her gig on Saturday at Somerset House.

DARK AND LONG - Underworld, Brixton

UNDERWORLD appear 1st Nov at Brixton Academy. Shouting mega mega shouting mega mega etc etc. On sale now.

Quireboys

The reformed QUIREBOYS ("reformed choirboys"? that sounds either dirty or religious) take their "Homewreckers and Heartbreakers" tour to the Forum on 14th December.

Sigur Ros: new date

SIGUR ROS (who according to their frequently asked questions have never collaborated with Mogwai) are announcing a second date at Alexandra Palace. Tickets for the 21st November gig go onsale Wednesday 9am

More Midweek

  • SETH LAKEMAN, variously described as folk, folk-rock, acoustic and folk-punk, "decided that I'd rather earn £150 a night playing live than have unreal millions dangled in front of me on a stick". Tickets for his Shepherd's Bush gig go on sale Wednesday 10am: we hope he's getting more than £150 out of it.

  • The WOMBATS have another date too: 17th November at Shepherds Bush. Wednesday is Wombat Day from 9am onwards.

KINGS OF LEON

We're still waiting on final details (prices and suchlike), but this is your headsup that KINGS OF LEON will be playing the O2 Arena on 11th December. More news of that when it happens, but ticket sales start on Friday morning.

GOMEZ

GOMEZ are listed in the allmusic guide both as "British Trad Rock" and as "Experimental Rock", but we suppose after all that the British do have a tradition of experimental rock, so perhaps it makes sense.

Anyway, they're playing at the Forum on 2nd September, and tickets are on sale now.

Friday's onsales, and band name trivia

  • VAMPIRE WEEKEND is an amateur film created by Ezra Koenig, who later went on to form a band of the same name. Tickets (for the band, not the film) available Friday morning: 24th and 25th October at the Forum

  • The PIGEON DETECTIVES' drummer Jimmi Naylor "never liked the name at first. But it's stuck - and it's probably got us more attention having a silly name."

  • NIGHTWISH is said to be the name of one of NIGHTWISH's early songs. We read that on the Internet, it must be true. Brixton, on 11th March next year.

  • SIMPLE PLAN: the French Canadian pop punk band formed in 1995, so we can probably assume is not named after their 2008 album. That would be weird. At the Forum, 29 November

Underworld under Underworld

Thanks to the customer who alerted us to the problem with our search box: looking for UNDERWORLD lists several months of gigs at the famous Camden venue before the 1st November date by the famous Karl Hyde/Rick Smith electronic music duo.

We've set our crack(ed) team of tech experts to deal with this (realistically, anything could happen now) but in the meantime you can get tickets for their Brixton gig here or through the artists a-z link at the top of each page

PONY UP

NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB's sound is, according to last.fm, "a punk funk jerkout that sounds like a distaff version excursion on disco-era The Rolling Stones fronted by The Slits' Ari Up". OK, fine.

They're at the Metro Club on Wednesday (depending on when you read this, that's tomorrow, or it's today, or you've missed it already) and we have a few last-minute tickets left. You need to be able to collect them from our shop at Oxford Circus (about five minutes walk from the venue)

Counting cold war CSS kooks

All the onsales we're allowed to print -

  • CSS - which stands for Cansei de Ser Sexy, pop trivia buffs will know - are at Shepherd's Bush Empire on 6th October

  • COLD WAR KIDS are "keen backers of organic farming". They play the Astoria on 7th Nov

  • NOAH AND THE WHALE: "My mum is a total folkie," says 21-year-old songwriter Charlie Fink, who [says The Guardian] until he was about 14 believed his mum had written This Land Is Your Land. 6th Nov

  • "I've got an ego - I want the album to do well. I want our singles to come on the radio and for people to literally have their heads blown off by them" says KOOKS frontman Luke Pritchard. Literally? Neck braces may be a good idea for their Roundhouse gigs (1st, 2nd, 3rd December), then, in case live performance has the same effect

Brett Anderson

BRETT ANDERSON was born in Haywards Heath and "spent much of his childhood playing sports and becoming a rock star". More famously, he was in Suede (now disbanded) and then the Tears ("on indefinite hiatus") and now he's playing solo. Shepherd's Bush Empire, 30th September

Calling collect

If you've ever bought tickets or made other mail order purchases which need a signature on delivery, you'll know how annoying it can be when you're out when the post comes. You get a card and then you need to find the delivery office and get there at a time it's open. Sometimes you don't even get a card and you just have to guess that the postie has been and gone.

Regular customers may have already noticed that we've been trialling ticket collections on some events for the past few months. We're now extending this to all gigs that we would usually send by recorded ("Signed for") delivery: when you get to the Checkout page, simply select the "Collect" option and when we get your tickets (usually they're printed by the promoter or venue and sent on to us) we'll hold them at our shop for collection Don't forget to bring the credit card you booked with so we're able to release the tickets to you.

Friday

Not sure whether it's the new onsales list or there's some kind of hidden message.

  • TRAVIS - 8th October - Astoria
  • DISTURBED - 4th October - Brixton
  • NME ROCK AND ROLL RIOT TOUR Ft. PRIMAL SCREAM - 28th November
  • UNDERWORLD second date - 31st October at Brixton
  • and owing to credit card problems (not ours, of course!) a few HYLANDS PARK V FESTIVAL tickets are available now. Get them while they're hot - metaphorically speaking.

Travis are disturbed by primal screaming at the NME tour. Dark nights are unpleasant for strangers to travel. Et cetera
