average white band

Average White Band, widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music, bring their musical energy and trademark sound to the Hall in 2019 to play their 1974 self-titled album in full (and much more!).

Formed in Dundee in 1972, the Scottish funk/rhythm and blues outfit currently consists of Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre, its two founding members, alongside longtime sax/keys player Fred Vigdor, and other noted US musicians.

In their original eleven year run, Average White Band would prolifically release albums and smash their way into the UK Top 10 with 1974’s AWB, a record which topped the US charts too.

Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit Pick Up the Pieces the band’s strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi-Grammy nominations. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six piece took the influences of their R&B heroes – people like Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others – and developed their own sound.
